Additions to the agenda: none
New Business:
David Nichols
- Continue reaching out to non-facility/program users (residents). We made strides last year; and want to continue focusing on obtaining new members and patrons.
- Reduce costs and increase revenue.
- David has already been proactive by adjusting the RFP for the fitness center management; internalizing spa maintenance, plant maintenance, and first aid supplies. He and the other department heads will meet with the CFO on February 27th to discuss prospective cost reducing measures that could be implemented village-wide. Revenue generating ideas will also be explored.
- The fees subcommittee (David Nichols, Wayne Mosley, Gus Janszen and John Doviak) will meet next month.
- The irrigation project at soccer field two is complete.
- Public Works plans to install a new roof and HVAC units on half of the Recreation Center this year.
Gus Janszen
- This year bring soccer to the next step by implementing national settings. Since communities in our new SAY Cincy Central division agree with implementing the national settings, he and Kristen may only need a little support from Commission.
Pamela Meyers
- Would like to see stability in our tennis program. We have had turnover in our Pro position, and it would be nice to have someone who will be back summer after summer.
Michele Gottschlich
- Encourage pedestrian travel through walking and biking. Michele recently attended a workshop about bike friendly communities and how communities are adding bike paths to street development or repair projects. This goal can compliment our trails project which is in progress. David has discussed with Lifestyle Essentials the development of a running group. (It could include walkers, too.
Old Business:
- Lifestyle Essentials Report – needs to add compliment/complaint section so commission knows patrons’ thoughts and concerns.
- Pamela Meyers spoke last meeting about a patron’s comments to her about fees and working with trainers, and commission had requested further details from the patron. After further discussion with the patron, Pam reported that this patron had miss-read the signage and was still missing the Tri-Health staff. (Note: Lifestyles has re-worded the signage for clearer understanding.)
- John Doviak commented Tri-health did a good job; but Lifestyle Essentials is also doing a very good job. Lifestyle’s personnel have created new workout routines for John, and the routines are very detailed.
- Stiney Vonderhaar commented he has seen Lifestyle Essentials’ personnel assisting patrons much more than Tri-Health personnel.
Director’s Report:
The department is hosting an Earth Day event on April 25th from 1:00-3:00pm. The event will take place on village grounds with various games, projects for the kids, various informational centers, a tree planting, and then culminating in a hike to Griffin Preserve with an Evendale Boy Scout troop.
April 24th will be our annual Ice Cream Social and Movie Night.
On April 26th, the fire department will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
Virginia Graeme Baker Act Update – David has been talking to Bradford who installed our spas, and the molds for the spa grates are not even formed. The grates for the outdoor pools are not ready either. The Hamilton County General Health department is aware of the situation and will allow us to continue using the indoor spa until the new grates are installed. Regarding the outdoor pools, we are safe; we just need to replace the covers with ones stamped ASME/ANSI A112.19.8.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
Plans for Phi’s 50th Anniversary Reunion celebration are underway. Plans currently include a golf outing, party at the aquatics center, and dinner.
Awards Night is March 21st, everyone should have received their invitation by now. This year’s theme is Glow Big or Glow Home.
The ski trip to Gatlinburg went very well. Everyone came home having had a good time while not getting hurt.
Open Discussion: none
Motion to adjourn made at 8:44am by Stiney Vonderhaar; seconded by Gus Janszen.
Motion approved.
